How do I confirm my booking?

According the  rental type:

  • Instant booking: You confirm the rental immediately.
  • Booking request: You confirm the rental after the owner has accepted your request.

It is during this confirmation step that you select your payment option and method.

Can I pay the owner directly instead of paying on Getaround?

No, it is mandatory to pay via the Getaround platform. This ensures that your rental is covered by insurance.

If an owner asks you to pay outside the platform, you must inform us immediately. This constitutes a breach of our terms of service, and you will not be covered in the event of an issue.

What are the payment options?

Pay now

This is the default option to confirm your rental and pay immediately.

  • Bank authorization: We ask your bank to temporarily hold the total amount (rental price + security deposit) on your card.
  • Actual debit: The payment is only charged at the start of the rental (or at most 30 days after the booking).

On your bank statement, a transaction line may not appear until the actual debit occurs. Rest assured: if the rental is visible in your upcoming rentals on Getaround, it is indeed confirmed.

Pay later

This option allows you to confirm your rental now, while deferring the total payment (rental price + security deposit).

This option is being rolled out gradually. We’re currently testing it with a random group of drivers to ensure a seamless experience before making it available to everyone. It will be open to all our drivers very soon.

If this option is available to you, it can be used for bookings made:

  • Between 7 and 17 days before departure: Payment must be completed at the latest 4 days before the rental starts. (NO)Note: This option is not available for campervans and motorhomes in Norway within this timeframe.
  • **More than 17 days before departure:* Payment must be completed at the latest 15 days before the rental starts.*

For rentals in France and Norway, please note: This option is not available for business rentals.

For rentals in Germany and Austria, please note: PayPal is not available for this option.

How does deferred payment work?

  • Verification: We perform a card validation at the time of booking. No amount is charged or held at this stage.
  • Automatic payment: We attempt to pre-authorize the total amount (rental + deposit) 24 hours before the final deadline (i.e., at D-5 or D-16). If this attempt fails, you have the remaining 24 hours to pay manually. After this period, the booking is automatically canceled.
  • Manual payment: You can also choose to pay at any time before these deadlines via your rental page.

Good to know: You cannot modify your rental (dates, mileage package, or protection plan) until the payment has been completed.
